Third COVID wave likely in August, may peak in October, says report

Researchers have indicated that India may witness a surge in COVID-19 cases this month with the wave – the third in the country - peaking with fewer than 100,000 infections a day in the best-case scenario or about 150,000 in a day in the worst scenario.

Bloomberg cited researchers led by Mathukumalli Vidyasagar and Manindra Agrawal at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Hyderabad and Kanpur, respectively, and reported that the third wave may peak in October. The third wave is not expected to be as ferocious as the second one, when the daily cases in the country reached above 400,000 and came down after that.
